The Varkey Foundation Global Teacher Prize 2017 (Applications Live June 2016)

The Global Teacher Prize is a million dollar award presented annually to an exceptional teacher who has made an outstanding contribution to their profession. The prize serves to underline the importance of educators and the fact that their efforts deserve to be recognized and celebrated. It seeks to acknowledge the impacts of the very best teachersnot only on their students but on the communities around them. In terms of eligibility requirements, the prize is open to current teachers who teacher children in compulsory schooling, or are between the ages of five and eighteen. The prize is open to teachers in every kind of school and, subject to local laws, in every country in the world.

2017-18 Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Program (Applications Live July 2016)
The Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Program recognizes and encourages excellence in teaching in the U.S. and abroad. U.S. and international teachers receive grants to study at a university, observe classes, and complete a project pertaining to their field of educational inquiry during their time abroad. Eligibility requirements include five years of teaching experience and a Master’s degree (or enrollment a Master’s program at the time of application).

IMPACT POLICY AND PRACTICE

2016-17 Teacher Leadership Initiative Cohort (Now Recruiting)
Schools that Lead works to empower true teacher leadership, enabling the profession to grow its capacity to lead from within and improve performance for every student. Teachers participating in the Teacher Leadership Initiative can choose to earn 15 different micro-credentials as a teacher leader to advance powerful student learning.
Teach Plus Online: What Teachers Need to Know to Influence Policy Decisions (Begins July 7)
To ensure that the voice of teachers is heard by policymakers, Teach Plus is launching a new online course, free and open to teachers nationwide. The four-part course is the online version of a key portion of the Teach Plus flagship policy program, the Teach Plus Teaching Policy Fellowship.

The 14th Annual Policy and Practice Institute features keynote speaker Todd Whitaker. An authority on staff motivation, employee morale, and teacher and principal effectiveness, Whitaker has written 30 books, including the national best seller, What Great Teachers Do Differently.
Edcamp (Jul. 11, New Castle)
Join educators at Gunning Bedford Middle School for a free day of educator-driven professional learning. Edcamp has an agenda that’s created by participants at the start, and people are encouraged to have discussions and hands-on sessions.

The Common Core drives mathematics teacher Mary Pinkston and Mary drives her students to succeed. The 2010 Delaware Teacher of the Year works in a school situated between rural and urban areas.
