Award Opportunities

NCSS Outstanding Social Studies Teacher of the Year (Deadline: May 15)
The annual NCSS Outstanding Teacher of the Year Awards recognize exceptional classroom social studies teachers for grades K-6, 5-8, and 7-12 who teach social studies regularly and systematically in elementary school settings, and at least half-time in middle or junior high and high school settings. Award winners receive $2,500, complimentary one-year membership in NCSS, and present a session on their work at the NCSS Annual Conference, and up to $500 in transportation/lodging reimbursement to attend the Annual Conference.
Butler-Cooley Excellence in Teaching Award (Deadline: June 12)
Established in 2004 with a grant from the John Wm. Butler Foundation, Inc., the Butler-Cooley Excellence in Teaching Awards Program honors teachers who have demonstrated their capacity to change the outcome of students’ lives and communities where they teach. Two teachers each receive a $5,000 cash prize.Teacher Awards for Literacy (Deadline: September 15)
The Penguin Random House Teacher Awards for Literacy program recognizes the nation’s most dynamic and resourceful teachers who use their creativity to inspire and successfully instill a love of reading in students. Winners are awarded cash grants and book donations to help further their innovative reading programs and to disseminate them to other teachers around the country.

Superstars in Education (New Castle, May 8)
Superstars in Education recognizes outstanding educational programs and individual achievements. This event highlights excellence in science teaching, integrated classroom technology practices, and school-to-career partnerships.

 

Family Empowerment Conference (Dover, May 29)
The 2017 Family Empowerment Conference will be held at Delaware State University and is free to all youth and families. Enjoy information sessions, food, fun activities, and prizes throughout the day.

 

2017 Delaware Estuary Watershed Teacher Workshop (Various locations, June 17-20)
Join Partnership for the Delaware Estuary for four days of exciting workshops. Come and learn interdisciplinary ways to translate the environmental experience to your classroom.

 

2017 International Society for Technology in Education Conference (San Antonio, June 25-28)
ISTE 2017 is your destination for educator-tested strategies and extraordinary resources for transforming learning and teaching. It’s also the place to get connected to the brightest minds in ed tech, then network with them all year long.
