Introducing Mollie Berner: Communications Fellow
When asked to write a bit about yourself, it’s always an interesting prospect. If you were asked to describe yourself in a handful of words, what would they be? What should others know about you, anyway? What is your ‘mission statement’?
When approached with this question, I answered with three words that describe me better than anything, that translate into every aspect of my life: competitive, driven, and heart.
I’ve been competitive since an early age, with many years logged on sports teams, and I’ve always have had the urge to win, whether it be by 0 or 100. It’s been an attribute of mine that’s carried into many personal accomplishments in the past, whether it be coming out with a “W” on the scoreboard, or getting into my top choice university, or landing positions on executive boards of my favorite clubs and organizations, or scoring internships I’d only ever dreamt of obtaining.
I’m driven. I’m driven to leave a mark on whatever and whomever I come across. As a senior at the University of Delaware, I have held four internships to date—a Public Relations Intern for Senator Tom Carper, an Intern for the gubernatorial campaign for Jack Markell, a Communications Intern for Special Olympics Delaware, and now, a Communications Fellow for the Rodel Foundation. I am driven to not only let these experiences change me, but let them shape my future choices as well.
I have a lot of heart. I put my full heart into everything I do. I have been a part of a few clubs and organizations on campus for the past four years that I feel extremely passionate about—I am a Blue Hen Ambassador Tour Guide for a university I adore and appreciate, I am the Public Relations Director for UDance, the university’s largest student run philanthropy that raises money for pediatric cancer, and I am a sister of a sorority, one that has given me more experiences and taught me more lessons in college than I could have ever hoped for. These opportunities have shaped my future career path.
The above three characteristics have molded me into who I am, and as I approach the next phase of my life after that fateful “G” word comes closer, I am thankful for these experiences. “Finish Strong” is what they always say. I am thankful to be concluding my college career holding an internship at a Foundation that stands for all of the right values—Mission Driven, Global Excellence, Ingenuity, Integrity, and Team. These values are what I help to convey to the public and to you every day, as a member of the Communications Team here at Rodel. Communications is vital in a time where media is coming at you from every which way. I urge you to listen to the right people, to the game changers—that’s what I’ve found here at Rodel. They’re the ones who are competitive in their benchmarks to success, driven to change the public school education system in the next decade, and have the heart to make a difference. I am so happy to be here and to be one of the voices of such a profound organization.
