Delawareans Invited to Contribute to Smarter Assessment Development
As Delaware continues implementation of the Common Core State Standards which were adopted in 2010, the state is also preparing for the implementation of Smarter Balanced Assessment, which will be administered starting in the spring of 2015. Smarter Balanced will align more closely to the information students are expected to learn under the new standards. The results of this assessment will provide teachers and school leaders with information to improve instruction and help students meet the higher expectations.
As the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium and states prepare for the implementation of the new assessments during the 2014-15 school year, Smarter Balanced is inviting educators, higher education faculty, parents, and other interested parties from Smarter Balanced member states to participate in an online panel activity to review actual test items, recommend proficiency scores, and help establish consistent measures of student progress. Recommendations from the online panel will be shared with groups who will meet face to face to consider achievement levels for each subject and grade and later with groups who will meet to consider achievement levels across all grades.
The panel will occur between October 6 through 17, 2014, and will take participants up to 3 hours to complete. Each participant will have two days to complete the entire process. To learn more and register, visit the Smarter Balanced website. Registration closes on September 26, 2014.
Assessments are essential for helping students continue to improve, and this panel provides a critical opportunity to hear from teachers and parents, some of the most integral stakeholders, before launching later this year. Join more than 6,000 educators and parents nationwide who are already registered to participate in this opportunity.
