State marks early childhood ed. milestone, as federal funding expires
State lawmakers are celebrating a milestone in promoting early childhood education. They awarded their 100th five-star rating — the highest in the state’s Delaware Stars early learning system — to the Christina Early Education Center in Newark on Wednesday.
Bilingual education in the First State
Education is the theme of Thursday’s second annual Delaware Latino Summit. Specifically, the summit is focusing on training more First State teachers to be culturally competent. Andrea Flores is an example of what that could look like. Flores is bilingual and teaches first grade, entirely in Spanish, at La Academia Antonia Alonso Charter School.

Skyline Middle School parents voice safety concerns at Red Clay meeting
For parents at Skyline Middle School, Wednesday night’s Red Clay Consolidated School Board meeting was a chance to speak their mind. The group of dozens, all donning light blue shirts, wanted the board to listen to their concerns about a growing issue of safety in the Skyline Middle School. The school added more kids from Wilmington this school year, but discipline rates have been high since that addition–a 600 percent increase from last school year.
