Seeking Solutions for Wilmington Schools

We’re pleased to join United Way of Delaware and “The News Journal” to co-sponsor the upcoming Imagine Delaware education expo and open forum, which will focus on City of Wilmington education. Other partner organizations for this event are Brooks Fellowship, Christina Cultural Arts Center, Delaware Grantmakers Association, Interdenominational Ministers Action Council, Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League, and Teach For America-Delaware.

Held on Monday, March 9 at The Chase Center on the Riverfront, the event kicks off at 4:00 with an education expo featuring 50 public charter and district schools and community organizations. The expo is a great opportunity for parents to learn new ways to support their children, and also to learn about and apply to public schools this fall. The expo concludes at 6:00, just prior to the 6:30 open forum.

The open forum’s opening remarks will be made by Governor Jack Markell, and David Ledford, Executive Editor of “The News Journal,” will moderate a panel discussion. Panelists include: Tony Allen, Chair of the Wilmington Education Advisory Council and Senior Bank of America executive; Lamont Browne, Head of School at EastSide and Family Foundations charter schools; Merv Daughtery, Superintendent of the Red Clay Consolidated School District; Mike Matthews, Warner Elementary School teacher and President of the Red Clay Education Association; Tizzy Lockman, Wilmington mother and UD public policy graduate student; and David Sokola, State Senator and Chair of the Senate Education Committee. In addition to the panel discussion, attendees will be encouraged to engage with each other to collectively support and develop solutions for Wilmington public schools.

This event is free and open to the public. Open forum attendees are encourage to bring their smartphones and tablets to participate in live polls throughout the event.
