Today is Election Day: Don’t forget to vote!
Today is a special day for Delaware public education…it’s school board election day. Voting for school board members is an important opportunity to impact decisions that benefit students.
School board members play a significant role in shaping students’ educational experiences, by:
- Hiring, evaluating, and dismissing superintendents;
- Developing and stewarding the district budget;
- Managing collective bargaining agreements for teachers, principals, and other school leaders; and
- Setting policies in our public schools like curriculum, length of school day and year, and distribution of teachers.
This year, across our 16 school districts, there are 24 open seats up for election.
Don’t forget to vote, and encourage your neighbors, friends, and colleagues to vote as well! The polls open at 10 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. To vote in school board elections, you do not need to be a registered voter, just a resident in that particular school district and at least 18 years old.
