Help Support Delaware’s College Application Month

As part of Delaware’s College Access Grant Challenge initiative, the Delaware Department of Education has declared November to be College Application Month. Nationally, College Application Week is a nationwide effort to assist high school seniors in the college application process and increase college attendance. Special focus is placed on first-generation college students or those who otherwise may not have considered applying to college.

In recognition of the month, 20 high schools across the state will provide designated school time to help seniors apply for college. Also supporting this effort and recognizing the Month are Delaware nonprofit organizations like the Latin American Community Center, which is hosting an Application, Scholarship and Resume Boot Camp the week of November 4-8. Delaware higher education institutions (Wilmington University and Delaware Technical Community College) are offering students in participating schools the opportunity to apply without an application fee and application fee waivers also are available for other schools for income-qualified students.

There are opportunities for ways in which you can help support this effort, too. The Institute for Public Administration at the University of Delaware is working with the Delaware Department of Education to coordinate volunteers to help Delaware students apply to college. All volunteers will complete a brief training comprised of a webinar and a volunteer handbook to guide the volunteers for their shift. Our staff at the Rodel Foundation will be volunteering at different schools throughout the state, and we hope you will also use this opportunity to help support Delaware students.
